Today's the day my condo closes!
I dropped off the down payment and claimed my keys this morning.
I'm officially a property owner!!
My new keys!
What a journey. There were literally two or three steps I had to take every week for the past several weeks. A very exhausting, overwhelming, and frustrating process--but totally worth it in the end.
Thankfully my real estate agent was there every step of the way. His referrals (attorney, lender, insurance agent) helped me as well. They became part of my team, instructing me what to do week after week. I truly couldn't have done it without them.
Thanks to them, my monthly expenses will now go towards something I'll eventually own outright instead of paying a landlord.
A place I can be proud of and enjoy for years to come.
I feel very accomplished and excited and powerful in this moment.
Go, Dean, go!!

When you get your mortgage statements, be prepared to see that while you've made thousands of dollars of payments, your principal decreases only a couple of cents. They take out the interest first. Banks are friendly that way. Remember that your mortgage interests and real estate taxes can be deductible. If they total enough, you can itemize instead of taking the standard deduction and maybe get some $$$ back from the IRS. You should take some pictures, maybe before and after, so we can see it.
SOOOOO HAPPY FOR YOU!!!! CONGRATS DEAN!!!!
carlnepa!
Thank you for the financial advice! It's all very new to me but I'll learn as I go.
And I'll take pictures of my new place in time. I still need to get settled in and unpacked.

Congratulations! Enjoy the place and and be proud.
This is great news! Congratulations!
Real estate transactions have become very complicated. There are laws and regulations to protect the buyer, the seller, the lender, and anybody else involved. This spring we sold a family vacation home to a friend of my aunt's, and there was way more paperwork at closing, and hoops to jump through, than when my mother sold her house in 1994 and bought this one. You definitely need the pros to help you nowadays. I'm glad you got through it.
Bear Mark!
