Recognition!

I've been working at an arts-and-crafts store here in Chicago for about a year-and-a-half now and....it's finally happened.

The unthinkable.

The unimaginable.

Musical paper punches?
(Better than that)

Blinking cardstock?
(Nope, though that would be so cool!)

I was chosen as their employee of the week!

The write-up described me as, "Timely, efficient, and very detail-oriented....we can always count on Dean!"

I find it rather amusing since the former managers (now fired) would constantly complain about my work and always wanted me to do more and more and more.

Even though it's somewhat overdue, it's nice that the new management notices my contributions to the store.

But the job still pays very little and appreciated or not, there's ALWAYS so much for me to do. It's hard to keep up when I fall behind every week.

Rest assured as soon as something better comes along I'll run out of there so fast my velocity will send all that fabulous glitter flying!

Congrats. It's a cool thing. Have fun with it. I miss the City when it gets warm like it is this week for you, even after your mild winter. Last time I was there was May 2011 for my nieces wedding. I was in and out quickly though. Unemployed now due to Borders bankruptcy, so no trip home anytime soon. Have a ton of friends who live in Boystown and Andersonville. Family still lives in the 'burbs.

When I got my recognition at Target they put it up on the big board in sparkly sticker letters, which I think I was even more excited by than the fact that I was being recognized in the first place.

The job I quit 7 years ago because of an abusive manager is in such contrast to the one I now have where the manager says words of encouragement and even a pat on the back. I know what you mean and how it makes you feel when someone notices your hard work and commitment.

I can see that glitter flying! Keep positive my friend.

:)

At least it's always nice to get this kind of attention.

That's fantastic, Dean! Way to go! Finally you got some recognition, even though it's only a fraction of what you deserve considering how hard you worked for the business. :D

Congrats! But I'm hoping you get more than just recognition over there. You clearly need a promotion and a raise. :)

David!

I personally do NOT like sunny, warm weather and cannot wait for the cool, rainy days of fall to come back!

Marty!

Congrats to you as well!

You go, girl!

I'll take what I can get, Brody!

Jason!

There's no real promotion at the crafts store and as for a raise, well, my hourly rate went up 20 cents from last year.

*sigh*

Thanks to everyone for stopping by!
