Nude Male Ink Sketch - Side Pose

Pen and ink on paper - 8" x 10 1/2" (SOLD)

Here's a recent sketch I did from a live model.

I'm really pleased with the way this nude turned out! The figure is off to the side and yet I like that the male's shadow dominates the center of the drawing.

The lively, rough lines help pump some energy into the piece too.

Subtle, strong, and soft-looking all at the same time. Love that!

Great work Dean!
The first live model class i had was when I was 17. I spent three classes drawing his face because I was mortified. On the fourth day the teacher told me to start venturing out..... i did...lol!

"So then we went fishing, and we caught this fish. It was thiiiiiiis big ..."

Isn't it amazing what models can prattle on about when they are nervous?!

I like the sense of strength you have portrayed here.

Great composition Dean, I love the way the lines of the shadow lead to the figure. Wonderful job on this piece!

Oh, and I really like your new profile photo, btw. Your eyes look mysterious and powerful, but you also look very approachable and kind. You're such a cutie! :-)

Nudes are some of my favorite works to create! The human form is a work of art in itself!

I almost believed you when you said you discovered uranium, of course you probably did it before you were born. Hahahah! Yes! people read those things especially if they visit you for the first time. Oh I love this realistic drawing. You are such a generous artist! I am sure the model was pleased!

Dean, I found your blog through your comment on Suzanne Berry's--and have enjoyed browsing through so very much! You are an amazingly creative person in thought, vision, and living your life. The power and person/shadow composition in this piece are terrific, and your beautiful uglies are a delight. Clearly, even though you sometimes feel uninspired and unproductive at times (don't we all !?!), new insights keep bubbling up anyway. All that and quantum physics, too--wow, a true renaissance man.

You did such an amazing job on this, Dean. Like the way you did some areas quicker than others. The detail to the shape of shadow under his arm and connecting chest muscle is particularly well done. Love that you left the shadow.

Gwen!

Thanks for the detailed compliments!

Usually for sketches I like certain areas to dominate instead of others, as you noticed.

I love that I left the shadow too!

I like
1) your new photo
2) this beautifully composed drawing
and 3) that you're DOING stuff. Don't let being out of work (temporarily) freeze you. Make a schedule for yourself every day and just DO it. Keep your eyes and ears open, and you'll find good things.
Peace, Dean

Kelley!

I'm glad you like.....

1. My latest profile picture.
2. This particular ink sketch.
3. And that I'm keeping busy and doing things.

Making a schedule is one thing....having the desire and motivation to stick to it is a whole other story!

I will try though!
