"Tequila Sunrise" (W.I.P. Hibiscus Painting - Step 3 - Completion!!)

Watercolor on watercolor paper - 8" x 10" (SOLD)

I'm done. I'm done! I'm fucking done!

Ugh! This painting took sooooo much longer to finish than I thought. If I'd been using a real hibiscus flower instead of a photo reference, the bloom would've been long dead by now!

I would start and stop, then start and stop some more. This floral painting got pushed to the back burner so many times, thoughts about tearing it up came to mind so I wouldn't have to worry about it anymore.

It even got me to swearing. Fuckity-fuck and super shit! (See what I mean?!)

Anywho.....

I like the way this turned out. In this stage the shadows on the foliage were deepened and the finishing touches on the petals were laid in.

Am I 100% satisfied with this painting? No....but I am pleased with it and maybe that's good enough.

Now I can finally move on to something else! Fuck yeah!

Hey Dean! Watch your mouth! hahaha
You maid me laugh with this post!
Nice and lovely adjectives were rising in my mind when I first saw your painting, but see what I ended up saying first?! haha
Well, you definitely know how to paint. Period. That flower is great, so full of detail, the little veins, the colors, the movement of the petals. You did it!

Congrats for finishing this beautiful painting! It's stunning. Thanks for the tip about yellow base. I love flowers and used to grow many different kinds, but painting them is a different matter; its quite difficult for me. This beautiful Hibiscus painting of yours inspires me to do some flower paintings. :)

Carolina!

Sorry for the naughty language in this post. It just came over me! (It was meant to be read kind of jokingly so I'm glad it made you laugh).

Thanks for noticing all the little details in this painting. I like the way the veins turned out myself.

Now it's time to go clean out my mouth with soap!

Akiko!

If you did a floral painting like you do your animal ACEOs, well, it would nothing short of phenomenal.

I would LOVE to see you paint a flower sometime!

Thanks to the two of you for the wonderful words!

$*%&@$ congratulations!!!! It turned out just beautiful, Dean!

Nice. Particularly the right side of the bloom, it has depth and as much of that velvety look as you can get with watercolor. So Bravo and try Ivory soap for the dirty mouth. ;)

Gwen!

I guess swearing is contagious!

Andy!

Creating depth was one of the things I was worried about but I think I achieved it in this painting.

I'm stocking up on soap now for future posts!

I appreciate everybody chiming in!

Wow!!! See Dean [now that you've settled down ;o) ] I could not do something as beautiful, detailed and perfectly colored as your hibiscus. It is amazing you did this from life and not a photo reference. My hat's off to you my friend.

wow, thats fantastic, i love drawing my self but i never add color or paint my sketches becuz well i always mess them up somehow and yeah it really gets me mad when i do. But if I do add color (veri rarly do i) its only to add color to the eyes or to add a colored outline. but yeah i do have a myspace with pics. of my art in my photos, i'd love sum tips over them! http://www.myspace.com/lockedlips

thanks so much, Sabrina.

Hi Sabrina!

Thanks for stopping by to check out my art blog!

I totally agree with you about messing up a drawing once adding color. I don't know how many times I've ruined a really nice drawing when the painting doesn't turn out right!

I tried checking out your myspace page but it was set to private. Sorry!

Thanks again!
